Confession time.
I've been waiting all month to give you another peek into our book baskets. If truth be told, these monthly inventories are my favorite posts to write.

Is it because I'm a closet librarian? Is it because I'm a huge nerd? Maybe a combination of both.
Either way, I love books...I love reading them...I love talking about them...I love smelling them. (Yep, I'm THAT girl. You know the one. The girl who randomly opens a book just to smell its crisp pages. It's a sickness and I might need some intervention. But, I digress...)
Here's what will hold our book marks in the coming days...
Read Aloud-Everybody
Socks- After a few months of reading a few "heavy" books with lots of plot and lengthy narrative, I decided that we needed a "light" book...one that would make us laugh...one that wouldn't require any extra commentary on part. While I wouldn't list Socks on any BEST OF literary lists, the silly, misadventures of a slightly-displaced kitten make this book well-worth a read.

Saying Goodbye to Survival Mode- I have two more chapters left to read of Crystal Paine's new book and then I will be moving on to either Song of Redemption, the second book in a series I started last year, or Notes from a Blue Bike: The Art of Living Intentionally in a Chaotic World. I'm not sure which. Unless someone has a glaring review of one over the other, I might just have to use the very democratic eeny-meeny-miney-mo method to decide.
Sweetie Pea-5th Grade
Beautiful Girlhood- (Mom assigned book) She started this book last month, but as she only is assigned to read one chapter a day and because there are many short chapters in the book, she's still working her way through it.
What Was the First Thanksgiving?- (Read for fun book) She really enjoys the What/Who Was biographies and will grab nearly any title she comes across.
Super Boy-2nd Grade
Tornado- (Mom assigned book) With the addition of a new beagle puppy to our household, I thought a story about the adventures of a boy and his dog would be the perfect book for Super Boy.
Toilet: How it Works- (Read for fun book) My son loves to take things apart and put them back together again. With a natural curiosity for how things work, it's not surprising that this "unique" book grabbed his attention.
Blonde Warrior-1st Grade
Clouds of Terror- (Mom assigned book) Based on the real life grasshopper plagues of the midwest in the late 1800s, this book is a riveting living-literature book for early readers. Don't let the title scare you. Set in the prairies of Minnesota, this book is very has the wholesome appeal of the Little House on the Prairie series.
The Berenstain Bears' Seashore Treasure- (Read for fun book)
Greased Lightning-Preschool
Bob Books First boxed set- My little guy was thrilled to finish an entire set of emergent readers last month and excited to begin round 2.

I love these posts as well:) it's a nice peek into what other homeschooling families are doing. Plus, I always find 1 or 2 idea for my family!

ReplyDeleteI just want to thank you for taking the time to do these posts. My 11 year old son has dyslexia but is so bright and imaginative. It is hard to find books at his reading level that aren't to babyish for him but the books you post make it easier to find some he can read AND would enjoy. It would be nice to see what your kids think of the books, though. It would help others to find ones that might fit their family.

DeleteI actually plan to do a few posts at the end of the school year with a listing of the top picks my kids read for the entire year. That way they are all in one spot for readers to find. I, too, love reading what others are reading. It's always so helpful to get title suggestions.
