Hip, hip, hooray...it's the last day!
We made it!
The 2012-2013 school year was marked by many great triumphs. In my effort to make our homeschooling experience one worth remembering, I really wanted to end our year with a celebration in honor of those successes. I had hopes of taking a field trip to a local printing press, but that fell through at the last minute.
PLAN B was a photo scavenger hunt around town featuring places and spaces that we have visited and enjoyed this year. You'll notice that "dentist chair" made our list. This is not necessarily a place any of the kids naturally "enjoy". But it was on our list of TO DOs for the day anyway, so adding it to our photo hunt took the "edge off" the experience for one little girl who DREADS getting her braces tightened.
Here are just a handful of the highlights from the day...
The playhouse at our church...built as a service project by some of the older kids as a gift to the toddlers in the nursery.
The photo studio at the advertising agency where the Hubs works. (One of the kids' most favorite places to visit...because there are swivel chairs at EVERY DESK...even the empty ones.)
One of the many artsy statues around our "Andy Griffith-esque" small town.
The puppet stage at our local library.
And the climbing wall of one of our favorite parks. (Kind of wish we had one of these in my boys' room. It would, certainly, come in handy in the winter!)
Since I typically award each of my kids the family celebration plate on his/her FIRST day of school, I get the pleasure of eating off of it on the LAST day. It's a nice way of reminding my children that THEY weren't the only ones who worked hard for the last nine months!
All in all, it was a great way to end a lovely year. While we have officially packed up 2012-2013, there is still much learning in the works. I'm looking forward to telling you all about it. But, that's for another day...
